The goldsmith used to wander through the gardens of his palace and share his thoughts with him. And above his head he caressed like a vulture wandering over a corpse, until he reached a beautiful lake surrounded by magnificent marble statues.
Life Poems
He sat there looking at the water that flowed from the mouths of the statues, like thoughts that flow freely from a lover’s imagination, and he looked at his palace that stood on a mountain like a birthmark on a girl’s breast. His imagination revealed to him the pages of the drama of his life which he was reading with tears hidden from his eyes and preventing him from seeing the feeble increase of man in Nature.

Poetry can be medicine for writers and readers. It can give us advice on how to live and teach us important lessons about the past. Here are some famous and short poems about life…
To Celebrate World Poetry Day, Here Are 27 Amazing Poems
Poetry, according to Matthew Arnold, “is essentially a criticism of life.” Poetry is as much a response to Ezra Pound’s words as a critique of fire is a “critique of life.” Without poetry being “critical” of life, there are many poems about life itself, including poetry about the business of life, what it means to live a full life, and what it means to “experience life.” The 10 best poems about life and living are presented here.
What is Life, by Sir Walter Raleigh. Raleigh (c. 1552-1618) is credited with many achievements, including great poetry, bringing tobacco and potatoes to England (none of which actually happened), dressing Queen Elizabeth I (a later legend ), and the introduction of tobacco in England..
According to Matthew Arnold, poetry is essentially a critique of life. Is poetry a ‘criticism’ of life, is poetry about life itself – about the business of life, about the meaning of a full life
Still Life And Poetry
Here are 9 of the most profound and meaningful poems about life. Some are tall, some are short, some are famous, some are rare. We collect short poems about the lives of some folk poets for our readers.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ‘A Psalm of Life’. Let’s continue this selection of classic poems about life with one of Longfellow’s most famous poems, not least because of the interesting line about ‘footprints on the sands of time’. This poem has become especially popular at funerals, showing that we can make our mark on the world before we leave it.
Walt Whitman, ‘O me! O Life!’. One of the shorter poems on this list, it was featured prominently in Dead Poets Society: Robin Williams’ character read it to his class. It contains many of the greatest characteristics of Walt Whitman’s poetry: free-flowing rhyme, transitions between long and short lines, rhetorical (or less-rhetorical?) questions, self-focus.
All I Need: Inspirational Love Poem. Beautiful Words And Poetry
Thus begins this poem by Charlotte Brontë (1816-55), the eldest of the three famous Brontë brothers, which offers an update on life: after acknowledging the difficulties that often arise in human life, the poet suggests that life is not so simple. it’s bad like all these.
Emily Dickinson, ‘Every Life unites in several centres’. Emily Dickinson’s beautiful poem is another positive approach to life: every human life has a purpose, a purpose, which we can hardly reach – but still. It begins:
D.H. Lawrence, ‘The Complete Life’. Let’s start this selection of the greatest poems about life with a very short poem by the great poet, novelist and short story writer D.H. Lawrence continue. In fact, the poem is so short that it can be quoted in its entirety here, as it simply says: ‘One cannot live fully until one dies and ceases to care.’ Now there’s a paradox for you…
Poem: Life Is Unfair
Philip Larkin, ‘Dockery and Son’. Beginning with Larkin returning to Oxford to dig up his old student, the poem finds the poet comparing his life with his contemporary, a man named Dockery whose son is now at Oxford, while Larkin remains childless and unmarried. The last point is to think seriously about what makes life good. Whether we ‘use it’ or not, it results, it goes…
Anne Sexton, “A place in my life”. Sexton (1928-74), who died after a long struggle with depression, was often admired by contemporary and fellow American poet Sylvia Plath. But Sexton’s poetry is even sharper than Plath’s against the harsh reality of his life experiences. Here, we have knives, eyeballs, ashes (for ‘crying’), and other symbols of despair and pain, all inhabiting a ‘room’ that represents Sexton’s troubled life.
Maya Angelou, ‘Life Doesn’t Scare Me’. A poem about overcoming fear and not letting it get to you, ‘Life Doesn’t Scare Me’ is a powerful statement of self-confidence and the importance of facing your fears. Angelou lists things in the Mother Goose tradition, from howling dogs to clever fairy tales, but returns to her mantra: ‘Life never scares me’.
Pressures Of Life
Sylvia Plath, ‘Life’. As we mentioned Plath above, we thought we’d finish our selection of the greatest poems about life and living with a poem called ‘A Life’. The poem is about death almost as much as it is about life, perhaps at least partly from Plath’s memories of a suicide attempt in the early 1950s, and subsequent hospital stay; It was written in 1960.
Writing poetry is not about putting words together to make some interesting sentences. Much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and makes others live every word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to turn them from hatred to love, from violence to kindness and compassion. Writing poetry is to help this society to understand life better and live more enthusiastically. There are a large number of world famous poems, both by classical and modern poets. You can read as many times as you want, as well as submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members and guests.
