Growing up in Toronto, Francis was sexually abused at age 13 and started drinking at that point. Life quickly deteriorated and before long he was homeless. Had to resort to change to survive. For 6 months he stayed on the street with no idea what to do or how to change his life. Today, Francis O’Dea is a multi-millionaire. As they say, “One year I’m broke, the next year I’m a millionaire.”
He changed his life by focusing on what he wanted. He got a job and slowly started to turn his life around.
Four years later, he opened a small coffee shop and called it “Second Cup”. Second Cup is now one of Canada’s largest coffee shop chains.

• Bob Parsons – Founder and CEO of GoDaddy.com. He once did a blog post where he talked about what he overcame in pursuit of his dreams. Unfortunately they have now taken it down, but from reading that post I learned that they were definitely not an overnight success and experienced many failures along the way. But he kept his vision in mind at all times, saying, “There is very little time that I look back or feel sorry for myself.” Another great quote from the blog post is: “Quitting is easy. The easiest thing in the world to do is to give up and give up on your dreams (and frankly, that’s what all risk-averse people want you to do). ” It’s a shame he took his blog post. It was good. However, instead, you can read his 16 lines that have great advice for all of us.
• Colonel Sanders (creator of Kentucky Fried Chicken) – Over a thousand restaurants said “no” for over a year when he tried to sell his chicken recipe.
• Thomas Edison – I’m sure you’ve heard of Thomas Edison and all the inventions he created. They are actually 1,093 U.S. He is one of the most prolific inventors in history with patents and many patents in the UK, France and Germany. When Thomas was 4, he was sent home from school with a note. The note informed his mother that her son would be removed from school because he was “too stupid to learn”. Thomas’ mother decided to teach him herself. He only had 3 months of formal training but created several inventions such as the gramophone. He was partially deaf in one ear.
